Between awe and danger: tourists capture the start of activity at the Fuego Volcano in Guatemala

Guatemala's Volcán de Fuego, recognized as one of Central America's most active volcanoes, entered a new and violent eruptive phase in the early hours of August 3. The sudden increase in activity caught visitors and tourists by surprise, who captured the onset of the phenomenon amid a mixture of astonishment and danger.

In response to the escalating eruptions, civil protection authorities in Guatemala evacuated at least two villages located near the volcano in the central part of the country. The evacuations and ongoing monitoring are being coordinated by the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred).
