Excise considers efforts to claw back EV subsidies

Thailand's Excise Department is currently evaluating the implementation of an administrative order aimed at reclaiming electric vehicle (EV) subsidies from importers. The proposed measure targets companies that have failed to meet mandatory domestic production requirements stipulated under the government's existing EV support scheme.

This initiative serves as a regulatory enforcement mechanism to ensure compliance with local manufacturing obligations. By requiring the return of subsidies from non-compliant importers, the government seeks to uphold the conditions of its industrial development policy intended to bolster the domestic automotive sector.
