Former América de Cali star joins as a volunteer after the earthquake that shook the capital of Valle del Cauca: “Help us in that way”

On August 10, 2026, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake centered in San José de Palmar, Chocó, struck Colombia, severely affecting the capital of the Valle del Cauca region and surrounding areas. The disaster has resulted in over 200 deaths and prompted large-scale emergency responses across the country.

In the aftermath of the quake, former América de Cali professional footballer Éder Castañeda joined local relief efforts as a volunteer on August 10. Working to clear debris in the Valle del Cauca capital, Castañeda issued a public appeal for urgent assistance to aid in the rescue and recovery operations.

Meanwhile, the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences reported on August 11 that it had received 160 bodies from the departments of Chocó, Caldas, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca, having positively identified the first 22 victims of the catastrophe.
