Maricarmen, the 87-year-old evicted tenant whose case sparked the Puerta del Sol encampment, has died.

Izquierda Unida (IU) has demanded the dismissal of José Luis Bergillos, the Housing Councilor of Benalmádena in Málaga representing the Partido Popular (PP). The demand follows revelations that Bergillos insulted Maricarmen, an 87-year-old woman who was recently evicted in Madrid, referring to her as a "puta sinvergüenza" with "thousands of euros in the bank."

In response to the public outcry, the Málaga city councilor has admitted his error. The incident highlights ongoing political tensions surrounding housing evictions and the conduct of public officials toward vulnerable citizens in Spain.
