Explosions reported at Egypt's Damietta Port, security officials suspect drone attack

Explosions and fires occurred at Egypt's Mediterranean port of Damietta, involving gas storage and regasification vessels. While security officials and maritime security sources, citing reports from Ambrey and Al Jazeera, initially suspected a drone attack that struck a US-owned gas storage tanker, Egypt's Petroleum Ministry disputed these claims.

According to the Petroleum Ministry, the incident was not the result of a drone strike, maintaining instead that the fire simply broke out on a regasification vessel and a storage vessel at the port. Port services firm Inchcape confirmed that two gas tankers caught fire at the location.
