Iris Marín warned about the magnitude of the forced disappearance: “Thousands of families have spent years wondering where their loved ones are.”

On August 30, in observance of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, families and advocacy groups held demonstrations to highlight the ongoing crisis of missing persons. In Colombia, Defensora del Pueblo Iris Marín stated that thousands of families continue to search for loved ones, noting that enforced disappearance remains a severe issue affecting the country.

Simultaneously, in Mexico City, families and collectives gathered on the Paseo de la Reforma to display photographs and search files of the disappeared. These public actions served as a collective demand for accountability and visibility regarding the persistent nature of disappearances in the region.
