FBI warns of ongoing scam that’s cost victims more than $1.6B since January 2025: How to protect yourself

Victims of an ongoing officer impersonation scam lost more than $1.6 billion combined over an 18-month period according to the FBI. In a warning issued Thursday, the agency said it received nearly 61,000 complaints of law enforcement or government impersonation scams from January 2025 to July 2026.
