‘Filth’ and animal faeces: Kāinga Ora tenant loses Ōtara home

A Kāinga Ora tenant in Ōtara has lost their home following a Tenancy Tribunal ruling. The property was deemed no longer fit to live in due to extreme conditions described as 'filth' and animal faeces.

According to the Tenancy Tribunal proceedings, the state of the property was severe enough that Kāinga Ora staff required full personal protective equipment (PPE) simply to enter the premises.
