European Championship marathon records fall in men's and women's races

Germany's Amanal Petros and Finland's Alisa Vainio both set new championship records on their way to gold in the men and women's marathons, on the final day of the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. In the women's race walking, Sofia Fiorini of Italy smashes the marathon world record by over nine minutes, with Maria Perez of Spain also setting a world record in the half-marathon, at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
