First cohort of Syrian policewomen graduate from new academy

On Tuesday in Al-Tal, Syria, approximately 150 women became the first graduates of the country's newly established police academy for women. The graduates participated in a graduation ceremony where rows of new policewomen, largely wearing hijabs beneath regulation hats and berets, lined up holding weapons.

The graduation marks a step by the authorities to rebuild the nation's security apparatus following recent political and structural shifts in Syria.
