First rain in three months for Chimbu

Parts of Chimbu province in Papua New Guinea experienced their first rainfall in nearly three months on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The precipitation follows a prolonged dry period that has significantly impacted the region.

Despite the arrival of the rain, the downpour was insufficient to resolve the ongoing water crisis. Essential services, including local schools and health centres, continue to face critical water shortages.
