Google has temporarily withdrawn a new artificial intelligence-generation feature on Google Earth following widespread backlash and concerns regarding the creation and spread of disinformation. The feature, which was active for a single day, allowed any user to generate and distribute fabricated satellite images of Singapore.

The capability to easily produce and share convincing fake imagery raised significant safety issues about the potential for widespread visual misinformation. In response to the immediate criticism and identified risks, Google backtracked on the rollout and pulled the tool from the platform.
