Forced birth control in Greenland violated women's rights, didn't constitute genocide, experts find

Between 1966 and 1991, at least 4,000 Greenlandic women and girls, some as young as 12, were subjected to forced birth control through the administration of intrauterine devices or contraceptive injections. Recent expert findings have concluded that these actions constituted a violation of women's rights.

While the investigations confirmed the rights violations, experts have not reached a consensus on whether the state-sponsored program qualifies as genocide. In response to these findings and the lack of agreement regarding the classification of the events, a truth commission is set to be established to further examine the historical scheme.
