Form 2 girl who nearly fell from height wasn’t bullied, say cops

(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: A Form 2 student who nearly fell from the second floor of her school yesterday was not a victim of bullying but had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, according to police.Terengganu police chief Khairi Khairudin said the 14-year-old girl was diagnosed with the mental illness in May and that her parents and the school were aware of her condition.He said the student is being treated at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu, Harian Metro reported."The student last went for treatment (for her mental illness) on July 14 and is scheduled to undergo follow-up treatment on Sept 15."The school had also referred the student to counsellors with 11 sessions held, and five consultations conducted with her parents," he said.Khairi said the school took several precautionary measures following her diagnosis, including placing her class on the ground floor and asking teachers to monitor her and classmates to always accompany her.The girl nearly fell from the second floor of the school around 9.30am yesterday but was saved by Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor, who managed to pull her away from a ledge.Those who are feeling stressed or distressed, or have emotional problems should seek help from doctors or reach out to Befrienders at 03-7627 2929.
