Former Illinois school site transformed into $1.35m accessible park

On August 26, the city of Galesburg, Illinois, officially opened Cooke Park, a new public space developed on the grounds of the former Cooke Elementary School. The project, which cost approximately $1.352 million, was designed with a focus on accessibility and community inclusion.

The park features an inclusive playground and a splash pad, serving as a neighborhood facility intended to replace the defunct school site. The development reflects a local effort to repurpose land for public use while prioritizing features that accommodate all residents.
