A Sunny Isles Beach man is facing an aggravated battery charge after police said he opened fire on his friend after they had dinner together Wednesday night.Police said the shooting happened at around 11:40 p.m. in the suspect’s unit at the Millennium Condominiums, located at 18671 Collins Ave.An arrest report states that the victim said he had been “drinking heavily” with his friend of five years, Joseph Christopher Mattina, who had apparently “become upset regarding a subject they had discussed.”The victim told police that Mattina, 53, left his balcony and went into his apartment and came back with “an expression on his face that caused (the victim) to feel uneasy.”That’s when police said Mattina opened fire, “grazing his right heel.”Police said the victim punched Mattina, who put the gun on a table. According to the report, the victim grabbed the gun, chucked it off the balcony and called 911.After police arrived, they said Mattina “spontaneously uttered that the firearm belonged to him and that he had discharged it accidentally.”According to the report, he later declined to speak with police.
Medics treated the victim at the scene, authorities said.As of Thursday afternoon, Mattina’s bond was listed as “to be set” in Miami-Dade jail records. .l10-neighborhood, .l10-neighborhood * { box-sizing: border-box; } .l10-neighborhood{ --blue-dark:#0d2c73; --blue:#1f57c4; --blue-light:#3370e6; --gray-bg:#f2f3f5; --gray-border:#d6d8dc; --text-dark:#1a1a1a; --white:#ffffff; font-family:system-ui,-apple-system,"Segoe UI",Roboto,Arial,sans-serif; max-width:860px; margin:1.5rem auto; border-radius:10px; overflow:hidden; border:1px solid var(--gray-border); background:var(--gray-bg); box-shadow:0 4px 14px rgba(0,0,0,.12); text-align:center; } .l10-head{ background:linear-gradient(90deg,var(--blue-dark),var(--blue)); color:var(--white); padding:12px 16px; font-weight:800; text-transform:uppercase; font-size:1rem; letter-spacing:.3px; display:flex; justify-content:center; align-items:center; gap:8px; } .l10-body{ max-width:740px; margin:0 auto; padding:0 16px 18px; } .l10-sub{ margin:12px 0 10px; font-size:.95rem; color:var(--text-dark); font-weight:500; text-align:center; } .l10-grid{ display:grid; grid-template-columns:1fr; gap:12px; } @media (min-width:600px){ .l10-grid{ grid-template-columns:repeat(3,1fr); } } .nb-btn{ display:grid; place-items:center; text-align:cen… A brand-new water treatment facility opened Thursday in Broward County.The city of Fort Lauderdale launched the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center, which, according to officials, marks “a major milestone in the city’s investment in a modern, resilient water system and the future of drinking water for Fort Lauderdale and surrounding communities.”It is located at 3501 West Prospect Road.
“This is a transformational investment in the future of Fort Lauderdale,” said Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis. “We knew it was time to build a water system capable of meeting the needs of a growing city for decades to come. The Prospect Lake Clean Water Center delivers on that commitment with modern technology, greater resiliency and the clean, clear drinking water our residents expect and deserve.”The facility, which officials said cost approximately $666 million to construct, replaces the Fiveash Water Treatment Plant, which was nearly 70 years old, as the city’s primary drinking water treatment source.
