Foster fires four-timer to cut Roman’s lead atop jockeys’ standing

With leading rider Raddesh Roman out of the saddle due to injury, second-place Tevin Foster made full use of the opportunity, booting home four winners on Saturday, August 1 to cut the deficit in the race for the 2026 championship title. On Saturday, July 25 in the second race, Roman was aboard Midnight Galaxy when disaster struck in a split second. Unseated, he tumbled to the track in an incident that also involved Demar Williams on Ruby’s Light and Tyrese Anderson on Bubblingbrownsugar.

Starting the day on 50 winners — nine behind Roman on 59 — Foster cut the gap to just five with his four-timer. The championship now stands: Roman 59, Foster 54. Foster’s spree started in race two when he brought Novio with a telling run in deep stretch to beat stablemate Pepper Stepper (Robert Halledeen) by three-parts of a length in a Restricted Stakes contest over 5 furlongs (1,000m) round.

The Jason DaCosta trainee won in 58.3 (23.3 x 46.0). His second came in race four aboard Star Quest, also trained by DaCosta. Foster guided Star Quest to an easy 2¾-length win in the Restricted Allowance II event over 7 ½ furlongs, beating Lockdown (Demar Williams) and Good Conscience (Shaheem Gordon).

The winning time was 1:33.2 (24.1 x 47.0 x 1:13.0 x 1:26.3). The triple was completed aboard the Oral Hayden-owned and -trained Wayne’s Princess in the $1.06-million 2026 Emancipation Day Trophy over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m). Wayne’s Princess came from behind to win by 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Great Wayne (Nicardo Carr) and Nakamura (Tyrese Anderson) in 1:19.2 (23.2 x 46.2 x 1:13.0).

Foster capped the day in the feature, the 87th running of the $3.75-million Jamaica Oaks Classic, aboard Dream Catcher. Also trained by DaCosta, Dream Catcher won the 10-furlong (2,000m) race easily by 2¾ lengths in 2:07.4 (25.2 x 50.0 x 1:14.1 x 1:40.0). Giving Thanks (Reyan Lewis) finished second, with Gulfstream Cat (Chalrick Budhai) third.
