Four Seasons has opened its first hotel on Mykonos, welcoming guests for its debut summer season on an island better known for its beach clubs and all night parties than for understated luxury. The resort, set above Kalo Livadi Bay on the island’s southeastern coast, marks the Canadian hospitality group’s second property in Greece, following its Astir Palace hotel in Athens. The 94 room, suite and villa resort was designed by Nicos Valsamakis, who stands among the most iconic and enduring figures of modern Greek architecture and whose modernist body of work has shaped postwar Athens as much as it has the Aegean coastline.
Now in his early hundreds and remarkably still practising from the studio he founded in 1953, Valsamakis is regarded as one of Greece’s most influential architects, known for buildings that favour restraint over spectacle, among them the Amalia Hotel in Olympia and the Alpha Bank headquarters in Athens. For Four Seasons Mykonos, he has drawn on the layout of a traditional Mykonian village, arranging low, whitewashed structures across six hectares of land overlooking the sea rather than building upward or outward in a way that would compete with the landscape. Uninterrupted sea views form the infinity pool Guest rooms The result is a property that leans into the vernacular Mykonos is famous for, cubic white forms, narrow pathways, sea views from nearly every angle, but filtered through a more private, considered lens than the island’s town centre typically offers.
Rooms, suites and villas come with plunge pools and private outdoor living spaces, and the resort includes a private beach, four dining venues and a spa and wellness centre. Interiors combine whitewashed walls and minimalist detailing with locally sourced furnishings and décor, a style consistent with the brand’s approach elsewhere but tailored here to the island’s own architectural language. “As we welcome a second Four Seasons to Greece, joining our Athens hotel, we introduce a new expression of luxury on one of the Mediterranean’s most iconic islands,” said Rainer Stampfer, President of Global Operations, Hotels and Resorts at Four Seasons.
“In partnership with AGC Equity Partners, we’ve created an experience that preserves the surrounding environment through thoughtful design and combines the warmth of Greek hospitality with the personalised service that defines Four Seasons.”…
