France to press ahead with high school phone ban from next month

The French government announced on Monday that it will proceed with a ban on mobile phones in high schools, with implementation planned as early as the upcoming school year starting next month. French President Emmanuel Macron and government spokesperson Maud Bregeon confirmed the policy, which follows legislation approved by parliament in July that also restricts social media access for children under the age of fifteen.

While officials move to enact the measures quickly, trade unions have raised concerns regarding the practicality of the timeline, warning that the ban may prove difficult to implement rapidly across high schools.
