Six French Islamic State suspects to stand trial in Iraq

Six French nationals are scheduled to stand trial in Iraq on Sunday on charges of belonging to the Daesh group. The proceedings mark part of Iraq's broader effort to assume responsibility for prosecuting thousands of suspected members of the organization.

Iraq's prison system is currently operating at high capacity with existing Daesh suspects. Additionally, the facilities have absorbed thousands of new detainees who were transferred from neighboring Syria beginning last year, according to an Iraqi judicial source.
