BENGALURU, India (AP) — Even as rescuers worked through mud and debris Friday in areas devastated by a catastrophic flash flood along the Himalayan border between Nepal and China, authorities warned that a newly formed, overflowing lake could trigger further… A lake formed after floods and mudslides on the China-Nepal border burst its banks on Friday, halting rescue operations. Nepal's disaster management authority said the death toll there rose to 538, and that more than 3,700 people have been rescued.

Nepali police later put the number of deaths higher at 547. Nepal police issued a fresh alert Friday after receiving information that a dam on the Tibet side has burst.
