ALGERIA: The growing relationship between Tanzania and Algeria is increasingly demonstrating that diplomacy can become a powerful engine for economic transformation when nations move beyond dialogue and embrace practical cooperation. In today’s interconnected world, countries that share knowledge, technology and expertise are better positioned to address development challenges and unlock opportunities that benefit their citizens. Here, a recent engagement between Tanzanian energy stakeholders and Algerian counterparts has highlighted the enormous opportunities available through knowledge exchange, technology transfer and strategic partnerships, particularly in the electricity and gas sectors.
The engagement reflects a broader commitment by both nations to strengthen economic cooperation and promote African solutions to African development needs. To crown it all, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electrical Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (ETDCO), Mr Raymond Mbilinyi, has pledged to strengthen collaboration with Algeria Electrical and Gas Corporation (SONELGAZ) to harness modern technologies in power transmission and distribution, with the goal of improving electricity services in Tanzania. Speaking during a meeting with Tanzania’s Ambassador to Algeria, Ambassador Mobhare Matinyi, at the Tanzanian Embassy in Algiers on July 25, 2026, Mr Mbilinyi said a one-week familiarisation tour by the ETDCO Board had provided valuable insights into advanced technologies applied in electricity transmission and distribution.
He explained that the visit exposed the delegation to innovative approaches focused on improving service quality, enhancing efficiency and promoting energy conservation as areas that are increasingly important as Tanzania continues expanding electricity access to support industrialisation, businesses, social services and improved livelihoods.
