From flood disaster to climate warning, Shah makes the Himalayas his UN message

Nepal’s Prime Minister, referenced as Shah, utilized the United Nations platform to deliver a prominent warning regarding climate change, linking a recent flood disaster directly to broader environmental crises threatening the region. During his address, he called for the establishment of a dedicated Himalayan climate-resilience mechanism to protect vulnerable mountain communities.

In addition to the resilience mechanism, the prime minister emphasized the urgent need for more grant-based finance to support affected areas rather than loan-dependent funding. He also advocated for the implementation of stronger regional early-warning systems to better prepare for escalating climate extremes.
