From uplifting team to calling out Olympiad mess: Srinath is India's man to count on

Grandmaster Srinath Narayanan has emerged as a key stabilizing figure in Indian chess, balancing competitive leadership with administrative advocacy. Recently, he captained his Global Chess League (GCL) franchise, the Gambits, helping the team recover from setbacks—including consoling Nihal Sarin after a difficult time loss—to secure a bronze medal.

Beyond his role as a team captain, Srinath has taken a vocal stance off the board by openly criticizing the accommodation arrangements provided for Indian participants at an event in Samarkand. Having addressed these logistical issues, he is now turning his attention toward the upcoming Chess Olympiad.
