Fuego volcano activity that triggered evacuations in Guatemala is decreasing, but risks remain

Guatemala’s Fuego volcano, one of the most active in Central America, began an eruption on Monday morning that necessitated the evacuation of approximately 1,700 residents from nearby villages. The displaced individuals remain in shelters as authorities monitor the situation and maintain evacuation orders until conditions are deemed safe.

By Wednesday, officials from the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) reported that the volcanic activity is gradually decreasing. Despite this trend, authorities maintain that the region remains on alert, as risks associated with the eruption persist.
