An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck the Simalungun region in North Sumatra (Sumut) on Saturday, August 15, at approximately 17:57 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). The seismic event occurred at a depth of 163 kilometers.

Tremors from the magnitude 6.4 earthquake were not confined to the immediate epicentral area in North Sumatra, but were also felt across neighboring Aceh province.
