Ghana’s construction Gross Value Added (GVA) will grow by 5.2% in 2026, higher than the 3.1% recorded in 2025, Fitch Solutions has disclosed However, the GVA will slow down to 5.1% 2027 and 4.5% in 2028, respectively. Meanwhile, the country is placed 7th in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) with the highest construction GVA. It is faring better than Nigeria, Angola and South Africa.

Ethiopia has the highest construction GVA in SSA. It is followed by Cote d’lvoire and Uganda in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Fitch forecasted Sub-Saharan Africa’s (SSA) construction Gross Value Added (GVA) will grow in real terms by 4.3% in 2026, down from previous forecasts of 4.6% as of April 2026 and of 5.4% as of December 2025, amid the effects of the US-Iran conflict.

This will see growth decelerate after the industry expanded by 4.5% in 2025, though it will mark the continuation of an uptick from average annual real growth of -0.6% between 2020 and 2024. “Over the medium term, we maintain a robust outlook for the region’s construction market, with construction GVA to expand in real terms by an annual average of 5.1% between 2026 and 2030”, it added. The UK firm, however, pointed out that even with the weakened outlook for 2026, it still expects SSA’s construction industry to remain the fastest-growing construction market globally in 2026 and over the medium term.

The region’s growth rates for 2026 and for the 2026-2030 period are far above forecast growth for global construction GVA of 1.2% in 2026 and average growth of 2.5% between 2026 and 2030. Among regions, Fitch Solutions now expects Latin America to see the second-highest growth globally in 2026, growing by 1.7%, while Asia-Pacific will see the second-strongest growth over the 2026-2030 period, with annual average growth forecast of 3.1% for the region over that period.
