KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government is providing additional support to children and families affected by the recent demolitions in Cooper’s Pen, with priority being placed on helping affected children return to school when the new academic year begins on September 7. In a release, the Government said the move follows Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ visit to the community, after which he directed Minister of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr and Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information Dr Dana Morris Dixon to coordinate the Government’s response and ensure affected families are connected with appropriate state support. The families will receive assistance to cover the cost of uniforms, textbooks and other school-related supplies.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, along with relevant agencies, will continue engaging affected families in the coming days, with the immediate priority being to facilitate the children’s return to school.
