(Bernama pic)SEBERANG PERAI: The government will make an announcement tomorrow concerning the possibility of hosting a Formula 1 race at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.“For F1, we will announce something on Sunday,” he told reporters briefly on the sidelines of an event here.SIC hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix from 1999 to 2017 before it was removed from the calendar due to rising hosting costs and licensing fees.Speculation about Malaysia being on the F1 calendar arose after the military conflict between the US and Iran caused the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races to be postponed.Malaysia and Turkey are reportedly among the candidates to host a race on Oct 4 to replace the Bahrain Grand Prix.Yesterday, the youth and sports ministry said it was conducting an assessment on the possibility of hosting the F1 race.F1 is expected to make an early decision during the mid-season break following this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, before racing resumes at the end of August.
