Grand Canyon crews removed non-native fish; rainbow trout share fell below 10%

Crews in the Grand Canyon have completed a four-year experiment aimed at restoring native fish populations in the Colorado River by removing non-native species. The initiative resulted in a significant shift in the river's ecological composition, most notably reducing the population of rainbow trout to less than 10 percent of the total fish count.

Following the removal efforts, native fish species have exhibited early signs of recovery. While the project successfully altered the demographic balance of the river's aquatic life, the long-term environmental implications remain a subject of ongoing study.
