Guayabetal is on red alert: the mayor is asking the government for help after landslides, overflowing rivers and damage to bridges

The municipality of Guayabetal, located in the department of Cundinamarca, has been placed on red alert following a severe water emergency driven by heavy landslides, overflowing rivers, and structural damage to bridges. The local mayor has officially requested immediate assistance from the national government to address the escalating crisis.

The emergency is primarily caused by the progressive accumulation of sediments in the Negro and Blanco rivers. This buildup currently threatens to completely cut off vehicular access to 14 rural districts (veredas) and risks causing the structural collapse of critical local bridges.
