Half a century ago, a flying ‘Noah’s Ark’ brought 18 lions, tiger cubs and camels to Christchurch

Fifty years ago, a chartered aircraft landed in Christchurch, New Zealand, carrying a cargo of 18 exotic animals including lions, tiger cubs, camels, and water buffalo.

The unusual flight served as the foundational transport for the establishment of the Orana Wildlife Park, bringing the various species to the region to help bring the park to life.
