In the July 26 letter, “Unfair political cartoon showed ICE training targets as a fleeing family,” Nick Anderson’s editorial cartoon is criticized as “terribly unfair and unkind” to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)’s “hard-working men and women who are trying to do an impossible job.”“Hard-working” is a low bar for the thousands of hastily hired, poorly vetted ICE officers who, in recruitment messages, were told they would engage the “worst of the worst,” handed a concealable badge, body armor, firearms and a mask, and deployed with abbreviated training on a mission targeting the totality of nonwhite refugees and undocumented immigrants.
