Health Canada authorizes Moderna clinical trial for new Ebola vaccine candidate

Health Canada has authorized Moderna to conduct a Phase I clinical trial for a new mRNA vaccine candidate targeting the Bundibugyo type of Ebola. This strain is responsible for the largest Ebola outbreak ever reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Currently, there are no approved vaccines or treatments for this specific form of the virus.

With this decision, Canada becomes the second country, following the United Kingdom, to authorize a clinical trial for a Bundibugyo virus vaccine candidate, according to federal officials.
