Gianni Kahlo said he was walking his dogs on Saturday in Wilton Manors when a quiet attacker sneaked out of nowhere. Kahlo, a hairstylist, said it was at about 10 p.m. as he walked along Northeast 19th Street, just off Wilton Drive.
“I can’t stop replaying what happened ... I heard something behind me, and then I just see a hand in front of me ... When I saw the hand getting closer to me, I just let my dogs go, and I used my other hand,” Kahlo said.
The attacker who was near the Richardson Historic Park & Nature Preserve was armed with something sharp, according to Kahlo. I didn’t realize he got my neck too, until I made it home,” Kahlo said. After he called 911, police officers and fire rescue personnel responded and took him to the Broward Health Medical Center, where he got stitches.
He said he was still in pain on Wednesday and was also afraid to leave his home. “I hope they get him so I feel safe again,” Kahlo said. McKenzie Henderson, who knows Kahlo as a barber who works at Ron’s Barbershop in Fort Lauderdale, set up a GoFundMe fundraiser.“Gianni needs his hands to work and fears he will lose his business and his clients.
He is unable to work,” Henderson wrote. Wilton Manors detectives asked anyone with information about the attacker to call 954-390-2150 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous. The attacker was armed with something sharp.
