Highlands facing severe eight-month drought: Governor Rapa

A severe drought lasting eight months is currently impacting the Highlands region of Papua New Guinea, leading to the widespread destruction of food gardens. In response to the escalating crisis, Western Highlands Governor Wai Rapa has formally requested that the National Government declare a State of Emergency to address the ongoing food and water shortages.

Simultaneously, the Oro Provincial Government has initiated emergency relief efforts in the Tufi Local Level Government area. The Oro Provincial Disaster Office is coordinating the distribution of aid to local communities as they struggle with the depletion of essential food and water supplies caused by the persistent dry conditions.
