Intentional homicide in Mexico decreases by 51%: there are 42.5 cases daily and seven states lead the number of murders

The Mexican government reported a 51 percent decrease in the daily average of intentional homicides between September 2024 and July 2026. Marcela Figueroa Franco, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, announced that the daily rate dropped from 86.9 to 42.5 cases.

According to the official figures presented during a government conference, the decline spans from the beginning of President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration through July 2026. Despite the nationwide reduction, authorities noted that seven states continue to account for the highest concentration of the remaining murder figures.
