Honda and Nissan to jointly develop components for software-defined vehicles

Honda and Nissan have announced plans to jointly develop components for software-defined vehicles. The collaboration is designed to split the substantial development costs associated with next-generation automotive technology.

Beyond cost-sharing, the strategic partnership is aimed at countering market pressures from U.S. electric vehicle giant Tesla and emerging Chinese competitors. These foreign rivals currently lead the field in software-defined vehicle development, prompting the two Japanese automakers to pool their resources.
