HRW says UN must keep peacekeepers in Lebanon

Human Rights Watch has urged the United Nations to maintain an international peacekeeping force in Lebanon following the expiration of its mandate later this year. The appeal focuses on the ongoing presence of the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon.

Known as UNIFIL, the peacekeeping force has been stationed in the region since 1978. It currently comprises approximately 7,500 personnel drawn from nearly 50 countries.
