Hurricane Lowell expected to pass near one Hawaiian island and cause major rains statewide

Hawaii Governor Josh Green has ordered the closure of schools and government offices on the westernmost islands of Kauai and Niihau for Tuesday as Hurricane Lowell approaches. The storm is expected to pass near one of the Hawaiian islands, bringing severe weather conditions statewide.

The impending severe weather threats from Hurricane Lowell include damaging winds, mudslides, possible tornadoes, and dangerous rip currents. Additionally, the storm is forecast to produce major rains across the state, with rainfall accumulations reaching up to 16 inches.
