NewzI Love Birdie bounced back in style to win the $1.1-million Caymanas Park 1959 Trophy on Saturday, August 22, 2026, just over two weeks after a strong placing in the 12-furlong (2,400m) Jamaica Derby Classic. Bred, owned, and trained by Fitzroy Glispie, the three-year-old bay colt didn’t disappoint his connections, romping home by an easy two lengths. The contest was a Restricted Allowance II for native-bred three-year-old (non-winners of 3) and imported three-year-old and upward (maidens) over one mile (1,600m).
After finishing a strong third in the Jamaica Derby Classic on August 6 behind winner London Spirit and Maverick, beaten by a length and a half, I Love Birdie showed he had trained on well. He took control in deep stretch and drew off for a comfortable victory at the wire. It wasn’t the best of starts for I Love Birdie as the three-year-old bay colt was the last of the six runners to leave the starting gates.
Veteran jockey Everton Miller held I Love Birdie under a tight grip and watched as Red ThirtyTwo (Emelio McLean) led the small field ahead of One Ianzha Links (Reyan Lewis) and Minnehaha (Dane Dawkins) down the backstretch. Entering the lane, I Love Birdie went four wide off the turn in fourth place and produced a strong run in the closing stages as he swept past the leader, Minnehaha, to win. Abudar (Tyrese Anderson) finished third as the final time was recorded at 1:42.0 (24.2 x 47.2 x 1:27.4). I Love Birdie is bred by Savoy Stomp out of the Burning Marque mare Birdie My Love.
