Starting October 1, 2026, the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) will implement stricter regulations for electric scooters under a new General Traffic Regulation. The updated rules explicitly prohibit riding electric scooters on sidewalks and introduce mandatory requirements such as a minimum age limit and mandatory helmet use. Violators of the new provisions will face fines of up to 200 euros.
