India-China border trade resumes after 6 years

India and China have officially resumed border trade across the Himalayan region following a six-year hiatus. Operations commenced on Saturday through the Lipulekh and Shipki La passes, marking the restoration of traditional cross-border commercial activity between the two nations.

Under the current arrangement, Chinese authorities have limited the initial group of participants to twenty traders. The trade agreement allows for the exchange of specific goods, with Indian traders permitted to export 36 categories of items, while Chinese counterparts are authorized to bring twenty categories of goods into the region.
