Citing lack of jurisdiction, India rejects Hague court’s Indus Waters Treaty ruling

India has rejected a ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, citing a lack of jurisdiction. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India considers the Court of Arbitration to be illegally constituted and has never recognized its existence in law.

The dispute centers on the Indus Waters Treaty, an agreement governing water distribution between India and Pakistan. While Al Jazeera reports that the Hague court ordered the restoration of the water pact with Pakistan, New Delhi maintains that the arbitration body has no jurisdiction over its sovereign choices.
