20 dead after Indonesia's magnitude-7.7 earthquake, rescuers say

A magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Flores Island in eastern Indonesia on Saturday, resulting in at least 20 confirmed fatalities. Rescue teams are currently searching through debris in affected areas, including the Laurensius Say Port in Maumere, to locate survivors. The tremor occurred in the early morning hours and was followed by dozens of aftershocks.

In addition to the seismic activity, tsunami waves measuring less than one meter were recorded in several coastal regions. Emergency officials are managing the ongoing recovery efforts as the death toll remains subject to change while search operations continue.
