Indonesian officials say government-supplied meals tested after more than 500 students fall ill

Indonesian authorities have initiated testing on government-supplied meals following reports that more than 500 students fell ill. The investigation follows a series of incidents involving the state-run free-meals programme, which has faced scrutiny regarding food safety and quality control.

Data from the Network for Education Watch indicates that the scope of the issue may be broader than the recent incident. According to the watchdog, approximately 37,600 cases of food poisoning linked to the free-meals initiative were recorded as of August 8.
