Inoperability of treatment plants generates health crisis

Residents in the Dominican Republic are facing a health crisis linked to the failure of local wastewater treatment plants. The situation has impacted families who purchased homes in residential areas with the expectation of adequate living conditions, only to be met with sanitation issues resulting from inoperative infrastructure.

Simultaneously, hydraulic engineers from the Inter-American Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering have challenged a proposal by the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Caasd). The agency suggested transporting water from the Hatillo dam to the Greater Santo Domingo area, a plan that experts argue is unnecessary given current water availability levels.
