Inoperability of treatment plants generates health crisis

Residents in the Dominican Republic are facing a health crisis linked to the inoperability of wastewater treatment plants. The situation has impacted families who purchased homes in residential developments with the expectation of adequate living conditions, only to face ongoing sanitation challenges.

Separately, hydraulic engineers from the Inter-American Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (Aidis) have challenged a proposal by the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Caasd). The proposal to transport water from the Hatillo dam to the Greater Santo Domingo area is being questioned by experts who argue that the region already possesses sufficient water resources.
