Mother flagged faulty smoke alarms before house fire that killed father and five children, court hears

In August 2023, a house fire on Russell Island, Queensland, resulted in the deaths of Wayne Godinet Jr and his five sons: Zack, 11; Harry, 10; twins Kyza and Koah, 4; and Nicky, 3. A pre-inquest conference is currently underway to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

During the proceedings, it was reported that the mother had previously flagged issues regarding the home's smoke alarms. Testimony indicated that witnesses did not hear any alarms sounding during the fire, and allegations have been raised that the landlord had been repeatedly warned about the improper installation of the devices prior to the incident.
