Iran expels Swedish diplomat after Sweden removes Iranian official: Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations cited

Iran expelled a Swedish diplomat on Thursday in retaliation for Sweden's earlier removal of an Iranian embassy official. The action was announced by Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström stated that the initial expulsion of the Iranian official was the catalyst for the reciprocal measure. Both nations cited the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations in connection with the diplomatic expulsions.
